Relationships: The Key to Business Success

Posted by Communications on Nov. 10, 2021  /   0

With the many lessons we have learned in the last year and a half, the importance of relationships – both personal and professional – rank at the top of the list.

With Zoom (and its counterparts) becoming our portal to the outside world, dressing up for work became a moot point. Even I replaced my dress pants with sweatpants! We expanded our connections more easily across space and time without the complications of travel arrangements.  New relationships were created and built with a smile on a screen instead of a handshake at a business lunch.  The connections formed were more direct and sincere, without distraction.

It was because of the new people I met and these relationships formed that I joined SMPS.

As a new member, I was excited to join an organization that does a phenomenal job organizing insightful and fun events to bring its members together, even in a virtual environment. The network, services, and opportunities that SMPS provides have been important more than ever during this time. As I prepared to go out on my own and launch a new business – Strategy Workroom – my involvement in the organization proved even more fruitful as I built new connections and friendships.

I would argue that developing and maintaining relationships is one of the most important objectives of any business. You never know where a relationship can lead you, the opportunity it will present you, where in the world it can take you, or how it can shape your future.

In one of my favorite podcasts, The Learning Leader with Ryan Hawk, Chris Johnson, Founder of Simplifilm, said,

It is important to keep up with your network and sustain a regular communication. Make a simple phone call.  Shoot a quick text.  These small touchpoints can go a long way toward developing positive partnerships.  Whatever you do though – do it because you mean it. It shows when you fake it.

As life as we knew it slowly starts to reopen, it will be even more crucial to get out there and make new connections. Put yourself out there. Relationships keep us going. The right connection can help you jumpstart a business, bring in clients, and put you on a mission to change the world.

Be genuinely curious and stay connected!
